Scripture: “If any member of the
community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord ’s
commands, when they realize their guilt and the sin they have committed becomes
known, they must bring as their offering for the sin they committed a female
goat without defect. (Leviticus 4:27, 28 NIV)
Observation: When we
commit sin, whether it be unintentional or not, we are still guilty and still
have to bear responsibility for it.
Application: Sometimes
we will do things that are wrong, without having ill intention. We might hurt
someone unintentionally or do something that we shouldn't do without thinking
of the consequences. When this happens, we might feel that we don't owe an
apology or don't need to make restitution because we never meant to do evil or
harm. Here we see very clearly though, that wrong is still wrong and that we
need to own up and admit our guilt.
Prayer: Dear Lord,
help us to admit when we sin or do wrong, even when the intention was not to do
wrong. Thank you for forgiving us when we do mess up and that your grace
abounds.
