Day 5- Genesis 31-37

DAY 5

Scripture: 33 Jacob looked up and there was Esau, coming with his four hundred men; so he divided the children among Leah, Rachel and the two female servants. He put the female servants and their children in front, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear. He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother. But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept.

Observation: Jacob must have been amazed to see Esau’s change of heart when the two brothers met again. Esau was no longer bitter over losing his birthright and blessing. Instead he was content with what he had.

Application: Life can bring us some bad situations. We can feel cheated (as Esau did) but we don’t have to keep on being bitter. We can remove bitterness from our lives by honestly expressing our feelings to God, forgiving those who have wronged us, and being content with what we have. And it yes I know it is easier to forgive the 'small' things, but it is the 'big' ones that we should forgive quickly because those are the ones that can really damage you and make you feel bitterness, anger, pain etc...

Prayer:  Father thank you for your word which we can read every day. Thank you for the lessons you teach us from it. Please help me to completely forgive those who wrong me, (and for those who I have wronged) as I know that it is an amazing feeling that sets you free. It is an extremely hard thing to do sometimes as you feel so much pain, anger and sometimes bitterness. Help us to not want to ‘punish’ those who wronged us but to forgive them. Thank you for the fact that I can speak to you about these things and with your help forgiveness can be achieved. In your name we pray. Amen
