Day 3 SOAP

Day 3

Genesis: 17-23

Scripture: Genesis 19: 29 So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Observation: God protected Abraham and Lot. He listened and honored the requests of Abraham.

Application: God hears our requests and prayers and responds. Maybe not always in the way we would like Him to but in the way He knows is best for us. He wants to hear from us and may alter his plans when we are reasonable in our requests

Prayer: Father I think You are trying to tell me to pray more rather than trying to solve things on my own. I sometimes (a lot actually) do that as I think that my prayers are not big or important enough to bother you with…But I have to remember it is never a bother to You. Father thank you for hearing each of our individual prayers and outcries for help. Please be with those who feel as if you are not hearing them, help them to understand that you are but doing what is best for them, not what they think is best. And that nothing is helpless with you. Help everyone to see how powerful prayer is and to tell other people about it. Thank you that I can see how powerful prayer is with the results from our prayer meetings every Friday, You are awesome! Thank you that You are part of my life.

  1. S- Genesis 19:16. When God decided to destroy the city of Sodom because of their great sin, he warned Lot to escape. "But he hesitated. Because of the Lord's compassion for him, the men grabbed his hand, his wife's hand, and the hands of his two daughters. Then they brought him out and left him outside the city."

O- God rescued Lot because of His great compassion and not because Lot was chose to follow God. Lot should have been disgusted with the sin and stayed away from the evil city. After they men sought to rape his guests, he should have prayed to God for help and fought back. When warned to escape, he should have gone eagerly. Instead, he hesitated. There must have been part of him that didn't believe God and part of him that wanted to stay with the evil people. But God rescued him.

A- God has to save us from ourselves... from our own desires to be part of the evil in the world. He has to give us faith to choose Him over the world. As Ephesians 2:8 says "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast."

P- God, save people here in Jinju. For those who come to IEC but are torn between the world and Yourself, grasp them by their arms and pull them to You. Grant them faith to believe and wisdom to see the meaninglessness of living for themselves. And for those who haven't been to church, do the same. Father, we want to see radical conversions as people come to see the light.
