Day 86
Job 34-42
Scripture: 34 31 “Suppose someone says to God,
‘I am guilty but will offend no more.
32 Teach me what I cannot see;
if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.’
33 Should God then reward you on your terms,
when you refuse to repent?
You must decide, not I;
so tell me what you know.
Observation: You can’t just ask for forgiveness you actually have to repent.
Application: Sometimes we think ok so yes I did wrong and I won’t do it again and thanks Jesus for dying for my sins and now life can go on…but no that’s not how it works you actually have to be sorry for what you did and ask for forgiveness! Not being sorry means you actually think it wasn’t that bad…(and yes I have sometimes just glanced over it because at least I didn’t kill someone right? wrong sin is sin and you should repent regardless of what it is…this is difficult!!!)
Prayer: Please help me Lord to stop just expecting forgiveness from You. You do not have to forgive me but I KNOW You will if I repent and truly feel and be sorry. Thank You that I know that! Thank You for everything You do for us! Amen
So we got to the end of Job. The module I am doing at the moment for my studies is about the Old Testament and I thought I’d share what they said about the book:
The book wrestles with the age old question: why do righteous men suffer, if God is a God of love and mercy? Job’s three friends gave essentially the same answer: All suffering is due to sin. Elihu, however, declared that suffering is often the means of the righteous. God’s purpose, therefore, was to strip away all Job’s self-righteousness and to bring him to the place of complete trust in Him.
