Day 40- SOAP

Day 40

Judges 2-7

Wow so much jumped out at me in this reading! Especially the fact that the Israelites kept on disobeying God and He had to keep on giving them to other countries to be oppressed until they asked for his help again and again etc etc I mean how many times are you going to test God!! You would have thought they would have done it once or twice max after seeing what happens, but no… ok ranting over ;) the verse that stood out the most for me however (and did last year too and I think I even asked this as a question to Pastor Brandon) is the following:

Scripture: 2 10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel.

Observation: After all of that…I mean after getting out of Egypt, the 40 years in the dessert all the fighting to clear the land, the tabernacle building(!) seeing miracles, hearing the Lord etc etc the very next generation knew nothing of what He has done for them and know nothing about the Lord…How?!?!?!

Application: So to me this passage shows how extremely important it is for us as Christians to tell other people about God and especially if you have children to teach them about God and His ways. Because if we don’t do this or wait for the next person to do it, it might happen that in a few generations He is also forgotten by the majority or all people.

Prayer: Dear Father help me and show me how to share what I know about You with the next generation and of course also with people from this generation that don’t know you or don’t know You in the way that You want them to. I never want to forget Your love or power so please keep my tightly in Your grasp and thank You that You are such an amazing and loving God, and sooo very patient! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

  1. S - Judges 6:39 - "Then Gideon said to God, "Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with he fleece. This time make the fleece dry and the ground covered with dew." That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew."

O - God understands that sometimes we need a push to understand that it's really Him working in our lives.

A - This verse hit home with me. I am still learning and questioning my faith/beliefs etc. and seeing that God didn't get angry at Gideon for wanting to see a sign, but instead showed him not 1 but 3 signs, makes me feel more confident in continuing my study of God. True, based on earlier readings, God gets angry when after repeated signs people still don't hold true to his word, but this passage showed me that he understands that sometimes we are confused and need a little push and that he will be there to provide it.

P - God help me continue learning about you. Keep me motivated to learn and understand more, through this 180 days, the prayer study, bible study and beyond. I want to know more about you! In your name I pray. Amen.
